Re: [foxboro] Use of null device groups

Len,

Thanks for the reminder. I never did receive an answer back then either. I
guess we finally stumped the List. To justify my habit of Group 0, I
started using it in the old days during the Genesis period when there were
not as many alarms options (just Boolean 0/1) and a limited number of Alarm
Groups (3); there was not even an HHA/LLA. An example would be the use of
an AIN High Alarm as a trip point; I did not want to send the alarm
anywhere, and I did not want to waste one of the limited Alarm Groups, I
just wanted to use it in some interlock logic. I realize that for many
years the alarm options have been expanded to eliminate that need (i.e.,
HLOP Integer 0/1/2/3) but I was too lazy to look it up.

ICC used to accept 0 so in my mind, it was/is a valid option. I guess I was
not the only lazy old timer...

Thanks, however I haven't seen a definitive responce on using group 0.

Is Device Group 0 a valid null device for today and forward?

Reference the following pasted question from Joseph.

Maybe something has changed over the years, but I also used to use Group 0
as LaLa Land (nowhere). However, I notice lately that this trick no longer
works. Can't remember the details, but either the block would not accept
Group 0, or it retained the previous value. Has something changed that
would prevent Group 0 from being a valid value for LaLa Land?
