Re: [foxboro] Use of 2nd Ethernet Port to Transfer Files

A brief summary for Solaris

1) To enable the 2nd Ethernet

a. Run prtconf -a to list all the network interfaces on the machine.
Save the results.

b. Install the card

c. Boot with the -r option to force the card to be recognized

d. Run prtconf - determine the name of the new card's name - probably
le1 or hme1 or something similar

2) Create a hostname file

a. The file name should be /etc/hostname.<name>, e.g.,
/etc/hostname.le1 or /etc/hostname.hme1

b. Put one line in the file and make that the name you want to call
the station on the 2nd Ethernet network. One of my AWs is 1AW51E. It's
network name is NISAW4.

3) Edit /etc/hosts and add a line with the name and IP address of the
box on the 2nd Ethernet port.

4) Reboot

There are other ways, e.g., using ifconfig to do this manually, but...

Once you have the machines setup so that ping works from one to the other,
you can copy a file by typing to the 2nd network name of a machine (call it
NISAW3) by typing

rcp testFile nisaw3:/opt

You can copy a directory by typing:

rcp -r /usr/menus nisaw3:/usr

I know that there are more instructions from others, but this might get you
started.

Subject: [foxboro] Use of 2nd Ethernet Port to Transfer Files

It has been mentioned on this list before that to transfer data files =

between workstations that a second ethernet port should be set up to do =

this and not use the control nodebus. Has anyone done this and created =

some documentation or scripts on how this is done and be willing to share =

with the rest of us on the list?

Thanks,
