Re: [foxboro] SunBlade 1500 Sol8 & KVM extender USB 2.0 ehci

John,

Thanks for the advice!

To day I flashed the newer PROM (4.17.1) I found on the SUN website.

This prevents the machine from not getting access to the keyboard
anymore after removing the keyboard from a USB port and putting it back
(a known problem where a lot of our clients are struggling with).

But, if I connect the keyboard to the USB2.0 ports I stick with the same
problem.

Which setting do you mean with the PROM settings? Is this part of the
settings I can view with "printenv" when in single user?

I have noticed a setting "Input device =3D keyboard". But noting about
boot detection of certain devices.

Someone more idea's? =

Kurt,

Check the PROM monitor settings. Not certain about the SunBlade 1500,
but I thought the older models had a PROM setting whether detecting the
keyboard was necessary for boot-up.=3D20

Subject: [foxboro] SunBlade 1500 Sol8 & KVM extender USB 2.0 ehci

Hi all,
=3D20

I am currently testing a setup with a SunBlade 1500 and a Rose
CrystalView KVM extender.

=3D20

The KVM extender requires an USB 2.0 ehci host controller.

The Sunblade has 3 USB 2.0 ports, but those ports don't work during a
reboot.

This means that the keyboard will never be detected and the boot will
not continue.

=3D20

Tests I did:

=3D20

* If I connect the keyboard and mouse on the USB 2.0 ports, the system
doesn't boot.

It looks like the USB2.0 ports (PCI slot) are not working during a boot
cycle.

=3D20

* If I connect a keyboard to the USB1.1 ports, and boot with the KVM
extender with mouse connected to the USB2.0 port.

The system boots, and after a while I see the USB 2.0 getting activated
(LED on the KVM extender =3D3D ON) but than the boot cycles ends with:

Giving up. /usr/openwin/bin/xinit: Connection Refused (errno 146):
unable to connect to X server.

=3D20

* Boot with Keyboard on the USB 1.1 and the mouse on the USB 2.0 ports:

System boot, but and after a while: Giving up. /usr/openwin/bin/xinit:
Connection Refused (errno 146): unable to connect to X server.

=3D20

* Boot with Keybord and mouse on the USB 1.1 in single user:

The Machine boots and after a while the USB 2.0 LED from the KVM
extender lid.

If I plug now a keyboard and/or mouse in the extender I get the message:

WARNING /pci@1e, 600000/pci@2/usb@8,2/hub@5 (usba10_hubd0): connecting a
low/full speed device to a high speed external hub is not supported.

=3D20

* Boot with Keyboard & Mouse on the USB 1.1 ports in single user. If the
system is running and I connect a mouse or keyboard on the USB 2.0 ports
I get a message that multiple mice or keyboards are not allowed.

=3D20

=3D20

*** Two major questions ***

- How can I get the machine boot with the USB2.0 (PCI) ports instead of
the onboard USB 1.1

- Is there a driver available to connect keyboard and mouse on such a
USB 2.0 device?

=3D20

Thanks for the advice!
