In every case that I've examined, the path is something like:

./usr/fox/wp/bin/dm_wp50

That's a relative path name. It's relative to wherever you are when you
extract the files.

The issue of centralized software install is real and difficult for both our
customers and ourselves, but it is way beyond what I'm able to discuss by
e-mail.

if the tar file uses absolute paths, how do they untar to the wrong
directories?

We did this one via our own script becuase it was taking about 20 min
to do each wp remotely. That would have taken us 6 hours total to do
every station. It took about an hour to read the install_wp script in
the QF, create my own, test it, and then run it on every station. So
we saved 5 hrs. Now I just need to restart all the FoxViews, but I
have a script for that too howvere that takes a bit more coordination
w/ each control room ;)
