Re: [foxboro] Serial Communications to Spec200, SMS stations vs. Foxboro computer gateways

I believe the equipment Tim is referring to evolved from the InterSpec
System. It was a serial communication interface between the Spec200 analog
world and the early Foxboro computer world (Fox 1/A, Fox200, Fox3, etc.). I
do not remember the SMS (Spectrum MultiStation) being compatible with the
InterSpec Stations so I am guessing it was the Spectrum/Foxnet version of
the AIM, UFM, UIO, maybe even the FIO, etc. Besides Alex and myself, I
doubt there are too many folks left that remember it...

Foxboro Spec200 is the old analog system

Foxboro computer gateways

In an attempt to migrate our DEC VAX to a new HP Itegrity server
(Itanium Open VMS) we have found it extremely difficult to interface to
the Foxboro Spec200 DCS.
To that end, we have heard of several instances of the foxnet
communications from a supervisory level 2 computer system interfacing to
SMS stations via serial communications for setpoint downloads and
actual data uploads. We are looking for detailed information as to how
this was accomplished including protocol, device settings (baud rate,
parity, data bits, stop bits...) Any information on this subject would
be greatly appreciated.

If known, we would also need to know what changes would be required on
the SMS stations such that the stations would recognize this new
communications path as the primary communications method.

Thanks in advance,
