You could program the Modbus slave to load a register with a code when
an error occurs and pass that register to the Master so you'd have a
more useful alarm.

Jim,

The error code is either an 01 or an 09.  (Sorry, I forget at the
moment.)
You will likely have to look at the Modbus documentation for the slave
device you are connected to.

We have an FBM224 connected to a Modbus device that occasionally returns
the code "06" when it is too busy to respond to the request.
Unfortunately, the I/A system treats this as a hardware error,
triggering a
SYSMON error.
