OK, so maybe it was to be off-list, but ....
But, Kevin, if what you need is a hard drive of the same size as the one
you are replacing, you can "format down" the one you have so it appears
to the system as a different size.
Sun systems use a little bit of space on the drive to describe the drive.
This part can be written by the utility "format" which is part of the
Solaris
software. Using this, you can make a drive appear as any type which is the
same size or smaller than the actual hardware size.
For most of our customers, replacement of disks is done as a repair, not
because
of a need to increase the disk size. What we do then is to take a new (or
used)
drive, and re label it to be the same as the one being removed. Everything
else in the system then sees it as the same as the old one, so there is no
change
or customizing install scripts, the backup and restore is less complex, and
so on.
