Steve,

Thanks for the reply.... I followed the procedure that you posted for
me.... However, I am still getting the same response.... More in
formation to follow:

1. We are using version 6.1 Day 0 cd
2. We have a DDS3 tape backup unit using 4mm tapes (backup to a single
tape)
3. We are using QF #991274D tape restore script (on floppy)
4. System is booting fine after Day 0 install.

Any help would be most appreciated!!!

Best Regards,

This may help!!!

In case of a drive failure or replacement of a drive that exhibiting
read and write errors, follow this procedure. It covers, installing 6.2
day 0 software on to a AW51B 18 GB hard drive (this is done to set up
the partitions on the drive) and restoring the drive from a backup
tape/tapes.=20
=20

Please read the completed procedure, you need to understand it before
proceeding.   =20

=20

To install 6.2 day 0 and restore a backup tape/tapes on a AW51B 18.2 GB
hard drive.

=20

1. Boot with 6.2 day 0 Cdrom.

At the OK prompt type: boot cdrom. (with the 6.2 day 0 cd in the drive)

=20

2. At the login prompt=20

type: root (logs in to the station)

=20

3. Copy the file md.db.18200.aw51.Z to the /tmp dir=20

      type: cp /cdrom/databases/md.db.18200.aw51.Z /tmp

(copies the file to the /tmp dir for installation on a
18 GB drive)

=20

4. Install I/A 6.2 day 0 on to the hard drive.=20

type: ia_install (follow the prompts type of station etc; AW51 B)

=20

5. Check to be sure the station boots after the day 0 load.

type: reboot -- -r (reboots the station to a day 0)

=20

6. After a good reboot, shutdown and halt the AW.

=20

7. Boot station with the day 0 cdrom and do the restore without
restoring the raw partition. The raw partition has the information on
the hard drive size and it is no longer correct. The correct information
was placed on the drive when the day 0 was installed.

Type: boot cdrom (with 6.2 day 0 cd in drive)

Type: restore (with the first or only backup tape in the tape drive)

     =20

If the backup was done using the dmp0_8MM command, you will have 3
tapes continue with instruction 8. The first 2 tapes will be restored.

=20

If the backup was done with the backup command, you will have 1 tape
continue with instruction 9. The first 2 sections of the tape will be
restored.

=20

8. Enter the station type AP, AW or WP.

Type: AW

Answer y (yes) to the question: Were these tapes made using a dmp0_8MM
utility? Type: y =20

There is 1 tape when the backup command is used and it contains the
Informix data. You leave the tape in the drive.

=20

10. I would be a good time to make a new backup tape. Be sure to label
the tape software release level, letterbug, the date and that it backed
up an 18 GB drive.

All,
Am attempting to restore an AW51B to a station with 4.2GB hard drive.
Original has a 1GB hard drive I believe. Anyway the restore seems
successful but when rebooting it cycles with "PANIC: vfs_mountroot:
Cannot mount root" Error.

Any help would be appreciated.
