We were having the same problems with out thin clients.  Plus each time we
bought a thin client it was quite different from the last.  So we installed
puppy linux on a compact flash card and use that instead now (I think you
said once we should build our own!).  We usually buy a small industrial PC
and stick the CF card inside.  It is quite easy to customise, so you can
stick a remote desktop client on it and connect to a P91 aswell.  I guess
you could use any of those small linux distros though.
