Pablo,
I think this is the HH that Terry is talking about.
It explains what I had mentioned regarding the boot diskette in detail.
Hope this helps and thanks to Terry for mentioning the HH !!
Also see note below from Terry...
"I read through Pablo's email again and saw that he says
The "Nodebus Activity" "TP Activity" and "Link" leds of the DNBT were =
off.
If the DNBT goes GREEN led only, I think the Nodebus Activity should be =
flashing, (indicates other stations on the node) even if the link to the =
computer is not working. Maybe he bent a pin or the cellbus slot is no =
good. "

Subject: Ethernet Card 3C509B with Driver K0200QP
Source: TAC
The 3COM ethernet card 3C509B is used in many 70 Series computers. The =
only way to be certain of the actual configuration in the card is to use =
the bootable setup diskette (K0200QP). Selecting the "Control Panel" =
and "Network" in NT can show an incorrect configuration for this card.
Since the bootable driver will try to access all 3COM cards in the =
computer, you should remove any other ethernet card, before booting with =
the floppy diskette. Check the documents to ensure the 3C509B is in the =
correct slot.
Boot the computer from the floppy, select the card and ensure the =
following settings:
Note: The I/O Base Address and Interrupt Reguest Level shown are for =
the P97 model, revision G.
Other models can have different settings. See the WEB page for your =
specific model.
1. I/O Base Address =3D 300h
2. Interrupt Request Level =3D 15
3. Boot PROM =3D Disabled
4. Transceiver Type =3D (On-board BNC for DNBX) or (External=20
AUI/DIX for DNBI) or (TX)
5. Network Driver Optimization =3D Windows / OS2
6. Maximum Modem Speed =3D No Modem
7. Plug and Play =3D Disabled
Note that the transceiver type is dependent on your connection to =
ethernet. For IA Nodebus with DNBI, use External AUI. For IA Nodebus =
with DNBX, use On-board BNC. For IA Nodebus with DNBT or for Ethernet =
to a HUB, use TX.
Save the settings and cycle power on the computer. Replace the other =
ethernet card.
If the second ethernet card was mistakenly left inside the computer when =
you were configuring the 3C509B, you will have to remove the 3C509B and =
configure the second card with it's settings, per the manual.

Hi Patrick,
I think I wrote a HH to guide people through setting the card correctly =
when you boot from floppy. As I recall, if you just used the WinNT =
tools, the card would over-write the WinNT setting on the next =
power-down - power-up and you are in trouble again.
I can't remember the number.
Take care,
Terry

You may have to set your transceiver type on the 3Com Ethernet Card.
I know I have had problems when it was set to auto. You have boot from
the
3Com utility diskette to change the transceiver type.
Good Luck !

Subject: [foxboro] REPLACE DNBI WITH DNBT
=3D20
Hi list,=3D20
I need to move an AW70 (very old one, Pentium 300 Mhz running I/A NT
Nodebus
6.5.1) from its current location (close to the I/A system cabinet) to a
room
some 60 m away. The AW connects to the nodebus through a DNBI interface.
As
Idon't have a thicknet (AUI) cable long enough, I will replace the DNBI
with
a DNBT.=3D20
I have a working set of DNBT+cables (tested in a separate system).
Before
moving the AW, I made a test to make sure the new configuration would
work.
BUT IT DIDN'T!!!!=3D20
This is how I proceeded:=3D20
1 - I configured the Nodebus NIC (3Com Etherlink III - ISA) with media
type
10Base T (It was previously configured with Thicknet-AUI). I have a
second
ethernet card, a 3Com Etherlink XL PCI, connected to the maintenance
ethernetnetwork.=3D20
2 - Rebooted the AW, with the new cables and DNBT (with proper
letterbug)
installed=3D20
After this, the nodbus never came up again. I rebooted the DNBT and the
AW a
couple of times with no result. As a bonus, the second card didn't link
to
the ethernet network either.=3D20
I made the same test with a second set of cables+DNBT, with the same
result.
The "Nodebus Activity" "TP Activity" and "Link" leds of the DNBT were
off
all the time. The module helth green led was on and the red one was off.
I know that my cables are OK and my DNBT is OK. I know that I connected
the
DNBT to the correct NIC. I can only think I have a configuration problem
(should I recommit? I think not...., the DNBx's are level converters
only,
according to Foxboro)=3D20
So I changed my NIC configuration back to AUI, reinstalled the DNBI and
rebooted. After that the system was up and running again..... except for
the
second NIC, that never worked again....=3D20
I think maybe my second NIC was damaged in the process......=3D20
Has anybody had a similar problem?.....=3D20
