Yeah, I read through the manual and played with it along with imagetool. It's
flexible but it's an interactive gui. I need something that will take unattended
snapshots of various screens three times a day via a script that is fired off by
the cron. I already have that with psc, xwd and xwud, but the file format is not
compatible with windows. I don't want to manual have to touch the files except
to possibly view them the next day if need be. The image files need to be
available to operations personnel to view and those persons are only windose
savvy.

Tim,
As Russ Boulay has suggested, you can look at /usr/openwin/bin/snapshot. If you
read through the MAN pages you can see various options to save the file in a
format that is easily viewed on Windows. I have used this many times to archive
graphics onto windows based servers and DVD's.
There are other graphic tools in this directory that may help you get exactly
what you want. Check related tools when you read through the snapshot manual
pages.
