Re: [foxboro] OSI PI system loading

Ken,

Question 1: You should always be concerned with loading, I suppose, to
some degree. We have PI on a bigger system, over 7000 points, and it
works pretty well. We split the system between two AW's so that neither
AW is overloaded, and we configured the points so that each FoxAPI list
consists of one CP's worth of information. You can do this with the
Location1 and Location2 parameters in PI. If you are also using AIM,
you can set a parameter so that FoxAPI and AIM share the lists, which
helps performance. We're probably overdoing it. Like Alex says, keep
the deltas reasonable, and you should be OK.

Question 2: If you can get 4.3.1, you should, but we've run PI on
FoxAPI version 4.2.5, 4.2.7, 4.2.8, and now 4.3.1, and it's worked very
well on all of them. PI has different versions of their "fxbais"
interface for different versions of FoxAPI. Those are provided by OSI,
and you need their documentation to decide which one to run. The two
most helpful documents from Invensys are the FoxAPI System Managers
Guide for 50 Series (B0193MD) and the FoxAPI User's Guide (B0193UD).

Subject: [foxboro] OSI PI system loading

 Hi List,
We have a small legacy nodebus system,=3D20
1 CP30=3D20
4 CP40=3D20
3 CP60
1 AB30
1 MB30=3D20
1 AW51F, ver 7.0
3 WP51B, ver 6.3

We are planning on installing an OSI PI data historian sometime this
summer. I have a couple of questions.
1. Should I be concerned with PI degrading the performance of the
system?
2. PI uses API for data collection, are there any documents I could read
up on covering which version works with what?
