You have control over this issue. Make sure that the change deltas for
the data collected by PI is not something unreasonable like 0.005% of
range. And there are some settings in the FoxAPI configuration to fine
tune the loading also (/opt/fox/ais/bin/foxapi.cfg).

We collect I/A data into PI for long-term historizing through two
interfaces, one for roughly each half of the plant. Each interface
collects data for roughly 3000 PI tags (+/- 100 tags) of mostly analog
data, though 3-5% are discrete. The data get to the AW running the
interface over the CBLAN. By judiciously setting the change deltas, we
don't see an abnormal load on that node or the LAN interface.

Search the Foxboro CSC web site for FoxAPI, you'll need those documents
for sure. I also found that OSI has very good documentation on how to
set up and configure the data collecting interface. Between the two
sources, you should be able to work your way through the initial
learning curve.

Subject: [foxboro] OSI PI system loading

 Hi List,
We have a small legacy nodebus system,=3D20
1 CP30=3D20
4 CP40=3D20
3 CP60
1 AB30
1 MB30=3D20
1 AW51F, ver 7.0
3 WP51B, ver 6.3

We are planning on installing an OSI PI data historian sometime this
summer. I have a couple of questions.
1. Should I be concerned with PI degrading the performance of the
system?
2. PI uses API for data collection, are there any documents I could read
up on covering which version works with what?
