Re: [foxboro] OMI on DM

Hi Alex,
Yes we're running an OMI application on an AW51E.

We would very much like it to run on windows too, because we currently
have a mesh system but are still using the unix boxes as operator
stations. If we go for windows boxes next year or so we need a solution to
replace the current OMI on unix. apart from the problems on these 3
displays or so it works fine and we use it a lot.

Thanks & Rgds.

Dirk,

Are you saying that you have an OMI Server running on a Solaris box?

I wasn't aware that it was ever ported from Venix.

--------
OMI - Operator Message Interface
It allowed a sequence block to send it a message and it displayed the
message on various process graphics. The operator could acknowledge the
message.

I believe it maintained a message queue as well.

Later, the folks in Baarn developed something similar - ODS - as part of
RBatch.

I've never used either, but there are a number of such users and I've
considered porting the OMI Server code to Windows if I can find the demand
high enough to pay for it.

Subject: [foxboro] OMI on DM

Anybody out there using OMI (Operator message interface I believe it is
called) from Invensys on a 6.3 unix system?
This OMI handles sendconf's from Sequence code and shows the sendconf's
text on the display. It does not exist in Windoze

I have a problem with displays that show Strings, and discretes (text tied

to Intgrs) on certain displays. When I call the display the strings and
discretes are smurfed. When I refresh the display sometimes everything is
ok, sometimes smurfed again. the smurfed objects show the correct strings
and discretes, and seem to update ok, but the blue colour is anoying and
gives the impression something's wrong....
When I delete the OMI message_ok object, the smurfing stops, the display
looks ok everytime it is opened. When I import the message_ok again the
smurfing starts again.

Strange thing is, it is only on certain displays, other displays work fine

and have been working fine for ages using OMI. the problem persists on
these problem displays and does not occur on any others

This OMI seems something exotic, I doubt if any of you use it but you
never know, maybe someone at Invensys ever used it.....

Thanks & Rgds,

Dirk
