Ken,

You oughta try Darryl Bond's dmstatus utility. It's a great little 
tool, and it'll save you the aggravation of trying to reinvent the wheel.

Sure, you can use the DM_Usage page like Jeremy talked about, but that 
requires you be at the AW display head, or have a remote DM running. 
With dmstat, you can do everything with a shell session. Sweet!
