Re: [foxboro] (No Date: Fri, 14 Nov 2003 11:25:42 -0600

Brian,

Eliminate the leading tab. The netmask is applied to the default
"network" portion of your IP address, not the entire IP address. I do
not know your IP, so I don't know if it is a native class b (first octet
128-191) or class c (first octet 191-223). Follow the example line in
the /etc/netmasks file.

For example,

151.128.0.0 255.255.255.0=20

(I am using Foxboro's default nodebus IP network address only as an
example!!!)

Thanks for the quick replies.

I should have included some more details. I am setting a new IP address
and netmask to le1( the second ethernet port).

Jeremy, I changed the ipaddress in the host file, and I did add a line
in /etc/netmasks <tab>ipaddress<255.255.255.192>, but when the box boots
up, ifconfig -a indicates that le1 reverts back to netmask 255.255.0.0
(with the new IP address).

I do not want to change the le0 settings.

Brian,

The /etc/netmasks file is used to permanently set a netmask to an IP
address. It is best to use the mechanisms provide by the operating
system.

It looks like you trying to set a netmask for nodebus interface (le0) on
a 51A or 51B machine. Why do you want to do this? IA, by default
expects a class B netmask (255.255.0.0).

Hi list.

I want to change the netmask on le0 to 255.255.255.192 permanently on an
AW51. If I use ifconfig, it reverts back to 255.255.0.0 next reboot.
Their must be a better way than to make a startup scrip. Any ideas?

      -Thanks in advance, Brian Bates.
