stan,

You can drop your "show stopper no. 3" because at Bayer in Anwerp the button
bar on the left has been removed so now they have the same space as with
there DM.
I can't remember how this has been done but I'll ask them how they've
managed.

Subject: [foxboro] Next Foxview issues

In the ongoing effort to manage to get to a position where we can migrate
existing systems from Display manager to Foxview, Foxboro has been able to
fix (or is going to fix) our 2 biggest "show stoppers".

1. Time change issues (BTW how does this work, here appears to now be a dst
process running on those machines)?

2. Fonts (Not done, but looks like it will be done).

This si good news.

Now the bad news, I think I have just found "show stopper No. 3", at least
for us. We have converted some graphics and shown them to various people.
The overwhelming response has been that they are "to small". We loose a
significant amount of screen real estate to the "decorations" that Foxview
brings with it.

Would it be possible to make it configurable to remove (in order of most
needed to remove to least)

The area on the left of the screen, the bottom and top areas?

We looked at removing all the "buttons" on the bottom of our exiting
graphics, and replacing them with the buttons on the left of the screen in
Foxview, but this pretty much requires rethinking the graphics from scratch.
It would be really nice if Foxview had a "legacy" mode, that did not use all
this extra real estate.

I can see where this new way of doing things can be sued well in new from
scratch systems, but I'm having big trouble with the conversion of existing
systems.

Comments?
