Re: [foxboro] New FBM08

To the "All Knowing List", changed MPOLL to 0, (was 7 default), FBM
downloaded and came online. I have not had a chance to go through and
verify eeprom versions and so on. I will go through that exercise Monday
and let everyone know what I find. MPOLL for Primary ECB,(ECB11), is
documented in the BO193AX manual and describes what can occur.

Thanks for all the help,
Brian

Brian,
I think I remember experiencing this problem quite awhile back in my
previous life at Dow Corning. I think Scott's suggestion of changing MPOLL
in the Primary ECB block to zero will solve your problem and the FBM will
come online. At that point you should be able to upgrade the FBM to the
latest EEPROM and then change MPOLL back to your desired setting. If this
CP is very lightly loaded from an FBM standpoint then it won't hurt you to
leave MPOLL at zero. MPOLL was instituted , (I think around Ver 4.0), to
optimize fieldbus communications so more FBM's could be POLLED in a more
efficient manner. I bet the current EEPROM of the FBM is old enough that it
doesn't recognize the fieldbus communication protocol instituted by the
newer MPOLL format.
For future reference for everyone it would be appreciated if you let the
list know if this is a solution to your problem. If memory serves me
correctly I think before the FBM boots with MPOLL set to zero the FBM will
automatically do an EEProm Update. If the red and green lights on the
nosecone flash back and forth in an alternate fashion that is what is
happening. Once the FBM is booted, look at EQUIP INFO for the FBM and
record the EEPROM REV. Then use EQ CHG to do an EE UPDATE and record that
value. Try setting MPOLL to something greater than zero, (Max = 7), in the
Primary ECB block and do a CP checkpoint before pulling the FBM08 and
re-seating it to see if it will automatically re-establish communication
with the CP. Good luck! I remember some frustration over this because it
was not documented and I had to pick the brain of others to figure it out.
