No, you shouldn't have to. We have had to replace 3-4 NVRAM chips so far,
all without any problem. Did you follow the procedures (B0193ND, Rev.H,
chapter 10) when replacing the NVRAM?

Also, there's a generic FAQ regarding SUN NVRAM that might help. It's
available on the web at:

I have a crt connected to the primary graphics adapter, (and another to the
second one) but after booting, when Xwindows start, it can't find /dev/fb1.
Reading into the OpenBoot configuration we have:
        ...=09
        /pci@1f,0/pci@1/SUNW,m64B@1
        ...
but in the WP that boots, we have
        ...
        /pci@1f,0/pci@1/SUNW,m64B@1
        /pci@1f,0/pci@1/SUNW,m64B@2
        ...
So we think that Xwindows looks for the first video card and in the NVRAM it
does't exist. The system boots and is posible to access it through a remote
terminal.
Maybe I'm wrong, but after we replaced the NVRAM we want to have the WP
running without performing a Day 0 instalation.
