Re: [foxboro] MicroIA / ERP communication - OPC - XML - Web Servi ces

Re: DCOM and OPC

The AIM*OPC DA and AIM*OPC DA/HDA servers can be implemented without the use
of DCOM.

Simply install them in the box with the client application. They include the
required software (netAIM*API) to allow them to get the data across the
network from an AW70 or AW51.

This eliminates the use of DCOM. The tradeoff is that our software has to be
loaded in the client box.

Subject: Re: [foxboro] MicroIA / ERP communication - OPC - XML - Web
Services

Hi Kevin,

Integration projects to exchange information to and from the Foxboro I/A
automation system with other systems is one of our major activities.

To exchange information OPC communication can be used, but currently the OPC
community have lost their technical backbone(DCOM), tryouts with OPC-XML
derivatives are lost in the decreased performance. Hopefully Microsofts new
communication system "Indigo" will bring the sunshine back to the "open
minded community". For more future background info see the article
http://www.controlglobal.com/articles/2004/229.html.

Currently we work with XML-SOAP and Web Services as our backbone to exchange
information, even between PC and Unix systems. If you want an easy
communication protocol between Foxboro I/A and the Ross ERP system, the Web
Services communication link seems the best solution to me.

You can always contact me for more detailed information.

Onderwerp: [foxboro] MicroIA / ERP communication

I have recently inherited a MicroIA (NT based) system. The system includes
an AW70 with 6 MicroIA's. We are in the process of installing a Ross ERP
system. We eventually want to transfer information between the two systems.
Has anyone done this with a MicroIA system? Is it possible? What are my
options?
Thank you,
