Thanks, I can see now that I was concentrating on the wrong messages in
the smon_log.

There are about 25 instances where there is a 5 minute Pxx, off-line
then toggle on-line and these are the switch trap messages that indicate
the end device causing link flap violations.

Example:
11/8/2007      7:23:57   1DSWA1   P04   Equipment off-line
11/8/2007      7:28:57   1DSWA1   P04   Equipment on-line
