The IA installs do not check drive labels on Solaris 8 and Solaris 10.
The Solaris 8 and 10 installs parition drives using a percertage method
of the overall size of the disk.
Previous releases like Solaris 2.5.1 that utilized the Solstice Disksuite
software did verify labels as disk mirroring was supported and required
drives of the same geometry.

Jim:
Assuming that this is the case, it's should be a standard 40GB IDE 7200RPM
hard disk with a Sun Microsystems label (Sun label is required for
trouble-free installs). If you're thinking about replacing it, it's Sun
part number X6184A (370-4440). Normally, a hard disk like this would be
under 100.00 USD, but since you'll need the Sun label on it it'll be over
300.00 USD. (By label, I mean the first bunch of bits on the hard disk
that can't be changed, not a sticker on the outside.)
I found one here (just a quick Google): http://www.mcac.com/x6184a.html
Standard operating procedure should be keeping a spare hard disk and a
recent tape backup lying around just in case it dies. Don't overwrite
backups; this will prevent overwriting a good backup with a backup that
has corrupted files. Otherwise, you should determine a point which you
consider safe to begin reusing tapes.

Re: [foxboro] Lost+Found
Something is wrong with the drive. Look at the files and see if you can
copy them back to there directories. If you have another AW running the
same software, do a find on the files and move the files to match.

We have an AW51F using Solaris 8 and I/A version 7.1.1 which has
accumulated 420 Lost+Found entries in the /opt directory. Is this
something to be concerned about? Do we need to make some further health
checks on this AW?
Thanks,
