I agree with Joseph that the loopback mount is the way to go.

We keep all our display and custom files (about 65 MB worth of them) in 
the /usr/DC filesystem which is a legacy from the old AP-20. But as 
most of you know, the /usr partition on an AW-51B/C/D is much smaller 
than the /opt partition, so we loopback mount our /usr/DC directory to 
/opt/DC where the files actually reside to continue referring to them 
as /usr/DC/something....

On the equivalent WP-51B/C/D, the /usr partition is actually bigger 
than the /opt partition, so I don't need to do the loopback mount.
