Alex,
In version 8.x (read Windows only), can't we send alarms to any printer
configured on the system? I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking you can
setup a TCPIP printer on a windows workstation (AW/WP) to be the default
printer and send alarms or graphics to it? I know I was able to configure a
laserjet 5550 to accept graphic printouts even on a UNIX AW/WP over TCPIP years
ago. Does the alarm printer really need to be configured to LPxx on ver 8.x?
I may be wrong, but I'll try next week!

Collecting them in AIM*Historian and using the Alarm Package to get the
data with OLE DB would be an appropriate approach if you don't need
real-time.
As for the rest, we do not support sending an alarm over Ethernet to a
destination. Such a program could be written.

I know that all these alarm logging tools can connect via RS232 just as
a
printer would ... but is it possible to drive the alarms out an ethernet
port instead of a COM processor? Rather than connecting a PC to the
COM10
via RS232 and then connecting the PC to my plant LAN via ethernet ...
can I
run one of these alarm loggers on a LAN computer and have the AW provide
the alarms directly through the ethernt port? And, would I want to?
(I'm
thinking traffic)
