Re: [foxboro] Java on AW51 version 6.x??

Corey,

We have installed JAVA on every one of our Offsite systems since 1999, so
the answer would be YES. JAVA and the patch set has been installed
successfully on dozens of AW51s and WP51s (running Solaris 2.5.1) in the
Gulf Coast area. Our Oil Movement Management, Tank Inventory System and
Blending Optimization software all use JAVA as it is portable between
Windows and Solaris.

For good practice, always make sure that you have recent, good backups
before you load any new software on your system.

So, what's the verdict? It is OK for me to go get the patch pack from Sun,
install it, and install Java?

Corey

Tod,

There were certain patch levels (103640-28) and/or I/A levels where the AW
would not reboot after applying the patch (1999-2000 time frame) due to a
corrupted or bad "sad" file. You would have to boot from CDROM to restore
the file. I reported the problem to Sun back in 1999, so I think that they
fixed it in later patch releases.

I have 103640-37 loaded on V6.3 and did not have save and restore the sad
file, so I think that it is an obsolete practice.

Regards,
Janet
