Tod,
There were certain patch levels (103640-28) and/or I/A levels where the AW
would not reboot after applying the patch (1999-2000 time frame) due to a
corrupted or bad "sad" file. You would have to boot from CDROM to restore
the file. I reported the problem to Sun back in 1999, so I think that they
fixed it in later patch releases.
I have 103640-37 loaded on V6.3 and did not have save and restore the sad
file, so I think that it is an obsolete practice.
Regards,
Janet

I'm the CALCView guy...
I've got a question about the installation of the software patches required
for Java as described in the Baarn Holland software install notes. In the
notes they say to backup /kernel/drv/sad, then install the patches, then
replace /kernel/drv/sad with the old one that you backed up.
Is there a good reason for this? Is it necessary? I've since updated my FAQ
on my site to mention this, but I have no idea why.
Thanks. Tod.

I contacted Baarn who developes our Offsite software. Here is their answer:
"The question is not which version will run on a C-style, but more whether
it is workable. When we say that Java 'doesn't run' on a style C, this is
not quite true. It does run but the performance is unacceptable, especially
when dealing with Java GUI's.
With D-styles is the performance acceptable."

I have one more doubt about Java on FoxBoro machines.
We have the offsite applications running on AW51E machines.
But those are older versions using C/C++ and without java.
We are thinking of upgrading the applications to latest version i.e. wi=
th
Java & Oracle.
The client WP machines are with mixed styles few C & few D.
We got the message as WP of C style doesn't support Java.
So it is impossible for us to upgrade all the WP's hardware.
Is it true ?
If not, what are the patches required to install ?
Where are those available ?
Which version of Java support WP style C ?
Pls. respond.

=A0Yes that is true. =A0We have to install Java on an AW51E1 running Fo=
