Re: [foxboro] Interfacing IA to Allen Bradley Controlnet

The best option that I have seen is to use the A-B OPC Server in our AW70X
with the OPC I/O Gate. It lacks redundancy, but works well.

This interface is pretty darn easy to setup and does not require the
ControLogix PLC to run in PLC5 emulation (with the associated extra
configuration).

Here's an excerpt from my I/A Series OPC Q&A:

You can build a 1 box solution today with AB's OPC Server and the AW70 OPC
I/O. This solution was implemented by Darren Bailey and Brian Hueni in
Houston, TX.

Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) sells two A-B OPC Servers:
*       RSLinx OEM and
*       RSLinx Gateway

RSLinx OEM can only be used in an "one-box" solution - OPC server (AB's
RSLinx OEM) and OPC client (the AW70's I/O Gate) reside on the same machine
.

RSLinx Gateway is required for a "two-box" solution - OPC server (AB's
RSLinx Gateway) on machine one and the AW70 OPC I/O Gate on machine two.

As a general rule, a "one-box" solution is easier to implement because of
the avoidance of DCOM.

        Subject: [foxboro] Interfacing IA to Allen Bradley Controlnet

        What are the options for linking IA directly to the Allen Bradley
        Controlnet. The options I am aware of are the use of an AW or
installing a
        DH+ interface to a PLC attached to Controlnet (this only
communicates to the
        connected PLC not other devices on Controlnet) . Has anyone had
experience
        using an AllenBradley KFC module to connect Controlnet directly to
an
        Integrator 30.
        Thanks
