Hi,
We have Modbus communcations going to the Multilins. We are using the
Modbus Plus integrator going to a Modicon BM-85 BridgeMux which then
provides 4 Modbus ports (allows us to maximize throughput - however the
Modbus Plus Integrator is no longer available).
The Multilins we are communicating to are the 369 and the 469. As well,
we are communicating to the F60 series of controllers.
We have the heartbeat working successfully with the Multilin model 469.
The F50 (750 and 760 series controllers) DO NOT support heartbeat
(Modbus Function Code 8 subfunction 00).
We have still struggling to get the heartbeat to work on the Multilin
model 369. GE Multilin support indicate that Version 1.91 firmware on
the Multilin 369 does indeed support heartbeat however we have not be
able to successfully make this work with the Foxboro Modicon Integrator
30.
I imagine you have already checked your RS-232 to RS-485 convertors
(required for multidropping the Multilins).
Hope the above helps. If anyone has the heartbeat working successfully
with the Multilin 369 - please let us know.
Cheers
Glenn Dehler

Usually, the issue is the Modbus device doesn't support the heartbeat. I
think that is Modbus message 8 (or was it 6?) Doesn't matter.
I have a Modbus checklist that might help which I will send separately.
If the Modbus Integrator won't cut it, you may the semi-custom FDI
Modbus
interface. Harder to configure, but handles all permutations of Modbus.
(This is covered in the document.)

Subject: [foxboro] Integrator 30 Modbus Connection to Multilins
To all:
We have a Foxboro Integrator 30 for Modbus Controllers and I would like
to
connect that up to a Modbus compliant device which speaks rs485 Modbus
RTU.
The configuration is basically the Int30, an RS232/485 converter and the
Modbus device (Multilin). The device settings are 2400,8,N,1 (half
duplex).
We have tried in vain to make this work. The ECB block to go on-line.
We
can use a PC and talk to the Modbus device however. When we try to put
the
ECB16 block online it times out. The RS232/485 converter flashes (ie:
the
232 sends out a signal).
We also tried to use an ECB20 block however we got an "Invalid Block"
message when we tried to save it.
Has anyone out there set up a similar configuration. If so, could you
please forward some details including cabling configuration, dip switch
setting (P0970VB) and the ECB block configuration.
Thanks in advance.
Yvon..
