Re: [foxboro] Installing new printers

If the printer is defined in the /etc/printers file, the printer will
appear as a selection for printing things Control Configuration. However,
just because the name appears in the list, it does mean that it will work.
In the past we have had luck with modifying the /etc/printers with a text
editor to add line at the end like:

LP99 0010 PC Laser Printer

You have to be very careful about the formatting (spacing) of this line and
not have blank spaces where there are not supposed to be, and be sure to
save a copy of your original unedited /etc/printers file as a backup. To
add the line, you should probably copy a previous complete line and only
change the appropriate characters. The LP99 assumes that you have defined
an appropriate printer within the Solaris JetAdmin called LP99 (this
printer should not be defined in Foxboro System Definition). Actually in
the past, we called the printer PO_BLDG, but it appears that some kind of
change was made at V6.3, because the printing no longer works after the
upgrade from V6.2.1. Although I have not checked it out yet, I assume that
a shorter, more legal name like LP99 will work.

For help with JetAdmin configuration, you will have to consult with others.
I am following some instructions that were developed for me.

Sorry to ask another question about printers. Mr. Ricker was kind enough=

to post a script recently that enabled me to print a text file from an
AW51B to a HP8000 Laserjet printer via the 2nd ethernet port. This was
done through the Unix command line. Now my question is how do I tell the=

I/A system that this printer exists? I want to print Foxboro daily logs t=
o
this new printer. I looked through a lot of Foxboro books for this
intormation but couldn't find it. If you could tell me how to do this or=

point me to the appropriate section of the manuals I would sure appreciat=
e
it. Thank you.
