In our case, we consider Priority 1-3 messages to be alarms, and Priority
4-5 to be notifications. We only want the alarms to go designated CADs
and make the "Process" light blink, sound audibles, etc. We send these
alarms to all the operator stations that are part of the operating area,
and they use the same CAG for that area. However, we would also be
beneficial for the operators to be able to see the Priority 4-5
notifications on a separate screen that is not considered to be alarms. It
would be nice to be able to configure a specific Alarm Manager that is
associated with one of the Additional FoxViews to show only the Priority
4-5 notifications, but if we send these messages to the operator station,
it will make the "Process" light blink for all of the associated FoxViews.
I know the external horn and I believe the GCIO alarm sound can be
limited to only certain priorities. We don't have enough alarm
destination group capacity to separate some stations to be used for
Priority 1-3, and others to be used for Priority 4-5, nor to we have
enough operator stations to do this in several cases. I did enter a PER a
while back to make it configurable as to what alarm priorities trigger the
"Process" light, just like we can to with the external alarm sounds.

It all goes back to the basic design assumption - A WP hosts FoxView and
FoxAlert instances that are closely coupled. If you need alarm
segregation, the assumption is that you'll buy separate WPs.

Yes, Martin, I didn't think about the horns. I was experimenting on an AW
with no audio at all. I suppose horns would not be affected by the
filtering, as they are inherently WP-based. To be fair, though, I already
had planned for this and we are using different destinations for different

plant areas and classes of alarms. However, this won't get me very far
with multiple AMs hosted from one WP/AW.

So, Alex, to add to my reply, "yeah, what he said" :)

Alex,

Re: I'm curious though do the CAD filtering options not meet this need for

you?

What effect does the filtering have on the horn and the 'Process' button
(and the Display Manager equivalent) used to call up the Alarm Manager?

Corey,

Re: is the alarming going to be changed so that alarms can be directed to
a particular display/AM instance rather than all instances on one station

I'm not aware of any such plans. I'm curious though do the CAD filtering
options not meet this need for you? They do for others which is why they
exist.

I'm interested in this approach, too, for other reasons. But one thing is
hanging me up: is the alarming going to be changed so that alarms can be
directed to a particular display/AM instance rather than all instances on
one station?
