Tim,
Windows XP SP2 is required because the PLB and HLBL compilers require tools
that are part of the NutCracker tool kit.
On-platform, we supply those tools as part of the I/A Series deliverable.
Off-platform, we had an issue:
a) Our older tools don't work under WinXP SP2.
b) The new tools don't work under WinXP SP1.
We chose to ship the new tools since we believe that our customers are going
to have to move to SP2 before long and because the cost of shipping and
testing both sets off-platform were quite high.
I hope this explains the dependency.
There is another point of note:
The IACC Client and the IACC Server need to be at the same release level.
We do not test a mix and match solution and we know of problems when it is
attempted. This can include data corruption or loss.
I'm not sure how well this will read, but here's an overview of IACC.
Feature ICC IACC Comment
# of users per database 1 1
# of CPs per database 1 1-3 If CPs share a database they should
be very closely related
# of databases per svr N N There is no fixed limit.
# of database servers M M There is no fixed limit.
per system
All Versions & stations Y N V6.4 and later; CP30A/DI30A and later
On-line updates Y Y
Operation off-platform N Y
Control loop templates N Y
Tag list import N Y
Animated loop drawings N Y
Process Graphic building N Y
As you can see, it makes a pretty reasonable ICC replacement.

Subject: [foxboro] IACC v2.1
A little development question on IACC...
During our recent upgrade, we installed IACC v.2.1 on our one and only
AW70XP machine, which was purchased for a specific project that required
the ability to configure HART devices (I'm still not sure if we could
have configured HART devices using Solaris and the ICC, but that's
neither here nor there). At some point in the future, I'd like to be
able to start using IACC to configure the rest of our "legacy" CP's,
which are hosted by two new AW51G boxes at Solaris 8. From the
experience of the engineer who is working on the project with the HART
devices, he really likes it and thinks it would be a good idea to
migrate away from ICC to IACC. I know that you can install IACC on
off-platform client PC's and use the second ethernet port to do the
configuration. However, Version 2.1 of IACC says that it will only run
on off-platform PC's that are at XP Service Pack 2. Our company does
not allow us to run XP Service Pack 2 on our desktop PC's, and they
appear to be sticking with that for the near future (at least) due to
various compatibility issues.
My questions are: 1) Is there any compatibility reason why I couldn't
run a previous version of IACC, one that works with XP SP1, on the
client PC's and still have version 2.1 on the on-platform AW70XP? The
two versions wouldn't be trying to access the same CP's, but they would
have a common database, I guess; and 2) If the answer to the first
question is "yes", will there ever be a newer version of IACC available
that can be loaded both on an on-platform AW70XP and on an XP client
that is at SP1, or is that not in the works?
I'm trying to figure out whether or not to schedule a training class on
IACC for our group, but if we can't even load the software on our
desktop PC's, it doesn't seem worthwhile.
