If I can make a belated response to this thread, (It's just Monday
morning here in sunny Australia). We use Inhalm as a matter of
consistency to manage this problem. This allows us to ennable or disable
any alarm in a block as required, and leaves all our alarm groups free
to be used as required. An example would be if we need the LAL and HAL
values for logic use but need HHAL and LLAL for alarm purposes we would
use the integer value 3 in inhalm.

Alan Armour

We also use priority 5, group 8 on any alarm we wish to activate but not
=3D show on any AMs or in the historian and haven't encountered any =3D
problems.

Corey,
We have not seen any... When Foboro set up our system over 10 years ago,
=3D =3D3D any block that used an alarm for logic purposes is set for
priority 5 =3D and =3D3D uses group 8 in the station block. We do not =
have
any devices =3D configured =3D3D for group 8 and have seen any problems.

O omnipotent list,
Are there any adverse effects when sending alarms to a group with =3D
no=3D3D20 configured devices (e.g., system loading, network traffic)? =
The
reason =3D =3D3D I=3D3D20 ask is for those few alarms I have that =
aren't used
as alarms, but =3D3D just=3D3D20 status indicators (e.g., to drive =
logic).
I don't need them to go to =3D =3D3D any=3D3D20 AMs or historians, and I
thought of using an empty station block =3D alarm=3D3D20 group for this.
