Re: [foxboro] Honeywell Universal Station X and I/A Series DM/FV

I guess since no one responded on-list, I'll tell you what I remember. We
used to have some Unversal Station X (UxS -- formerly USX, but Honeywell
got some lawyer noise from the steel company of the same name and had to
change the acronym) stations, and we have a group of related plants that
have both Foxboro and Honeywell hardware, so we toyed with sending the
displays back and forth (legacy DM on I/A) -- more of a geek "watch this"
kind of thing rather than addressing any particular need. This was quite
awhile back, but I seem to remember only needing to copy the fonts and
fonts.dir over to the UxS and run "xset +fp /ia/font/dir" or something to
get it to work.

The UxS was an interesting piece of hardware, and I sorta liked it. It had
the unique ability to revert to single-window operation, preserving the
process view, even if the Unix (HP-UX) completely died. I was sorry to see
Honeywell dump it in favor of Windoze. Unfortunately, it was insanely
expensive for a console.

Anyone "out there" ever try to display an I/A Series DM/FV (or other
application) on a Honeywell Universal Station X or other X-Windows based
system ABB Advant or Westinghouse perhaps?

If so, would you share the experience with me either on or off the list?

Thanks in advance.
