Re: [foxboro] Hard Drive Problems in 51B

Hi Dale,

I can give you a work-around I use sometimes, but if cylinders do not line
up, you are out of luck.

Boot to the CD and log in.

Type format

See something like:

        AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
                0. c0t0d0 <SUN18G cyl 7506 alt 2 hd 19 sec 248)
                /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/sd@0,0
Select 0
Type quit

Note the harddrive name (SUN18G above) and the cylinder count (7506 above)

Copy the cdrom/utilities directory to the /tmp directory

Move there and edit the ft_get_size file

Change the CDROM path to /tmp

Move down about 75 lines and note a list of harddrives, starting with
SUN0207 and ending with FOX-RAID

Find a hard drive that is similar to yours in size and cylinder count

Copy and paste the lines and change the name (i.e., change SUN18G) to the
name you found when you performed format

Run ia_install from the /tmp directory.

I have'nt done it in a while, but since this is a SCSI drive, you should be
able to go to Format and there should be some default picks like "Sun 4.1
hard drive" or something similar, our external 9GB drive is formatted as
Sun9GB. As best I remember from doing this about 5 years ago, you should
be able to pick this to format the drive accordingly - just make sure the
drive is as least as big as what you are going to format it to. The
Foxboro install software should then recognize it and load it. If there
are now several choices, you will have to check which ones are compatible.
My guess is that any of them listed are probably compatible with the
Foxboro software.

Hello list,

I searched the archives a little bit but could not come up with a direct
answer to my question, which is?

Can you install a Fujitsu Model MAS3184NC Hard Drive in a model 51B Box????
This is a 18.4GB.

Here is what I've sone so far....
I was able to boot up from cdrom on Ver 6.2 Day0 CDROM. Then I enetered
the
format menu and tried formatting the Drive. I was successfull in doing so
and I even let it do both verification checks. Then when I try an
ia_install script I get an error telling me about "Get_Size" error and the
script stops. In the archives I see where people have edited the format.dat
files to include their hard disk specs. I tried but was unsucessfull. If
anyone knows of a easy way out there to accomplish this could you please
reply??

Thanks in advance
