Re: [foxboro] Hard Drive

Brian,

The short answer is yes.

In order to use it, however, it must be "labeled" as one
of the 4.5 GB disks IS knows about. Right off the top of my
head I can't say is it is one or not, nor do I remember
which labels are valid.

This kind of labeling is done with the Solaris utility 'format'.
The file '/etc/format.dat' actually stores the formats. On
the IA installation disk, script 'ft_get_size' looks at the
disk label and decides how big it is, and therefore how to lay
out the partition (or slice) structure for IA. Following that will
get you to the list of know labels in a file some where on
the same CD.

Alternatively, you can keep the existing label, and copy the
ia_install script and sub-scripts to '/tmp' at the start of the Day 0
process. Next you modify these to provide a 'faked' label returned
by 'ft_get_size'. Just make sure the faked label is for a disk which
is not any larger then the one you have.

Various discussions have bounced around this listgroup over the
past regarding this use of a non-standard disk. You might find
more detail in the archives.

Lastly, I think there is a Foxboro issued diskette to assist in this
process, called "Pre-Install Utilities". I have seen and heard of
it but not actually ever worked with it.
