Re: [foxboro] 'Group' Visibility with DM

Assuming there are only two devices that need to share the same space, you
can save yourself some work by building creatively. Build the second device
atop a mask large enough to cover the device underneath. Draw a rectangle
(or any other convenient polygon) and fill it with your standard screen
background color to create the mask. On the first device (the one beneath)
you will only have to set the invisibility parameter on the pickable
objects. Although you will probably also want to set the invisibility on
changeable objects as well--e.g. text, valves, etc. On slower processors,
they cause the display above them to "flash" (the changing object will
become momentarily visible) when they change.
I further suggest that you draw the mask with the grid settings on. After
the mask is built, you can turn off the grid lock or clear the grid as
needed. Once you get everything built atop the mask you can group
everything along with the mask. If you do not build above the top edge or
to the left of the left edge of the mask, you can "snap" the whole group in
and out of place when you need to move it to get underneath.

While we're on the subject... It takes up resources, but I find it worth
the time to group objects and to name the groups efficiently. With Display
Configurator, it is sometimes not possible to pick something if that
something is behind something else. If I have efficiently collected objects
into groups, then named the groups so that I could identify them later, I
have been able to select objects from the drop down menu that I would not be
able to pick on the screen. Also, after the sixth or seventh valve in a
row, it is handy to have the group named with the tag number of the device.
(I go into "auto-typing mode" sometimes and those group names are enough to
keep me on course.)

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. It's been a long time since I worked
with DM on a daily basis and that's the way I would have done it 'back in
the day'. I was just hoping someone might have a better (easier) idea.

Thanks!

In the DM, you have to tie visibility to each piece. DM doesn't provide a
mechanism to add attribute control to a group.

Subject: [foxboro] 'Group' Visibility with DM

I've got a graphic where certain pieces of equipment need to 'disappear'
when they are not being used and other pieces of equipment need to appear in
their places when being used. This would have been a piece of cake in
Foxview but I can't think of a good way to make it happen with Display
Manager. I really don't want to set visibility on each line, arc,
rectangle, etc. if I don't have to.
Anybody got a better idea?

Thanks!
