Hey David, I have used perl with Tk to do gui programming on unix boxes. It works fairly well, I have even placed windows into DM windows using there XID. Getting installed on boxes with 2.5.1 required gcc to make and install perl ad the Tk module. Sunfreeware has both on its site for 2.5.1. Newer boxes have perl, but still need Tk installed. I have found the gui perl/Tk code works on both Win and Unix. Give me an email if you would like to discuss more. -----Original Message----- From: foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Johnson Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2006 3:40 PM To: foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [foxboro] Graphical Interface question Sun Programming Gurus I'm about to embark on a small development project and *horrors*=20 really need something that is graphical on Solaris. I've been=20 bloodied by X windows development in the past and don't really want=20 to re-live that experience. I'm thinking Tcl/Tk for this, but would=20 like some advice from those that have some experience. I remember=20 seeing some really pretty stuff from the General Mills guys a few=20 years ago, and I think most of that was Tcl/Tk. What about python? I=20 hear a lot of good stuff about that, but don't know if that's the way=20 to go. And also what version works well on Solaris 8? Everyone Does anyone have any good Podcast recommendations. There are so many=20 out there now that it takes forever to try them out to see if they=20 are worth listening to.
