Re: [foxboro] Get information's from System Monitor

Hi Dirk,

Thanks for the feedback I wasn't aware of the "-e" option as I primarily
use remv to collect and reset nodebus traffic counters as a way of
tracking nodebus health.

I haven't heard anything about remd/remv working at Solaris 8 but would
hope that it does or that there is a replacement tool that provides the
same information. Maybe an Invensys guru on the list can shed some light
on this ??

Regards
Ian

Hi.

You can get additional the "PERIPHERAL COUNTERS" in this Format:
@ SM9311    UMK27M    HIMA11    PERIPHERAL COUNTERS BEGIN
  SM9311    UMK27M    HIMA11     TIMEOUTS                         432
  SM9311    UMK27M    HIMA11     INVAL CMND                       404
  SM9311    UMK27M    HIMA11     INVAL RESP                         0
@ SM9311    UMK27M    HIMA11    PERIPHERAL COUNTERS END

If you want that use the option -e for the Equipment
# nohup /opt/rem/remv/remv -d(monitor) -s(station) -e(equipment) -c >
outfile
use -e@ for all Equipment.

Hi Ian,

thanks that worked well. But unfourtenly I don't get all Peripheral
Counters
for Modicon Gateway with this command-line options.
But I'am sure that I find the right options in the next days.

Be the Way I had heard that remv will not work with solaris 8, is that
true?

Hi Dirk,

To collect the system monitor using remv/remd you can perform the
following steps on the machine you have remv/remd installed on...

To collect system monitor counters;

1. On remv/remd station ensure that system manager display is not
running ie SMDH.
2. nohup /opt/rem/remd/remd &
3. check remd is running and note PID of remd ie ps -eaf | grep remd
4. nohup /opt/rem/remv/remv -d(monitor) -s(station) -c >outfile=3D3D3D20
where (monitor) is system monitor name eg M3AW10. An @ means all and
(station) is a device on that system monitor eg 03CP11.
An @ means all.
-c means collect.
Use -r to reset counters.
outfile is the file name to put results.
(you can use -c and -r to collect and reset the counters in the one hit)
5. kill the PID of remd.

I have scripted versions of this that we use to collect and reset
selected device counters on a routine basis.

Hope that helps.

Hi List,
thanks for all the hints.

What I'm looking for is exactly what Boulay suggests:
"how to get SysMon Counters without using the SMDH GUI."

So I will have a look into the documentation of remd/remv.
If anybody has already solved that Problem with remd/remv please let me
know.

Thanks
 Dirk

I believe the question that was asked was how to get SysMon Counters
without using the SMDH GUI.
That is achieved with the utility REMV/REMD which is a utility that
ships with Foxwatch and Remote Plus contracts at Foxboro.

Re: Historian limit

If AIM*Historian is used, there is no specific limit to the number of
SysMon messages that can be retained. The limit is the available disk
space.

Re: OM and SysMon

The number of OM variables required to support even a moderately sized
system is measured in the millions. We looked at a program to put all
System Monitor data into OM SVs or AOAs, but the memory requirements
were gigantic.

Re: Opening the System Monitor
Longer term, I want the System Monitor data to be available using SNMP
(Simple Network Management Protocol) agents. Then any SNMP client
application could access the data.

Thoughts on that idea are welcome.

You can also set up the historian to capture system monitor =3D3D3D3D3D
messages,=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
though you are limited to 9999 of them, so you have to use an ACE report

or something to extract them periodically.

What I'd like to see is an OM mechanism to get some of those parameters.

We have had some problems on a new 200-series fieldbus off and on over
the=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
past year or so, and when it gets bad, we inhibit CP alarming to keep
from=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
driving the operators nuts. So we have system monitor up trying =
=3D3D3D3D
to=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
troubleshoot by trial and error (because there is no other way =3D3D3D3D
with=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
fieldbus), and I can't see the entire fieldbus at once, so it is
extremely=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
difficult. And since I have alarming disabled, no messages appear in
the=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
file you mention or the historians. It would have been nice to be able
to=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
throw together a graphic to look at all the devices on the fieldbus on
one=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
screen, or be able to historize counters or flags as real-time variables

like a shared variable or C:B.P. Some of those things are available
in=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
the ECBs, but many are not.

The SMDH can do it; why can't we? Or am I missing something?

To collect the system monitor message into a file, create a folder named

as
sysmon in the directory /opt/fox/sysmgm.
and then create smon_log file in this directory using touch command. All

the
system monitor messages will be logged into this file.
To create the directory and the file, follow the following procedure in
VT100.

# cd  /opt/fox/sysmgm
# mkdir  sysmon
# cd  sysmon
# touch  smon_log

The smon_log file will log system monitor messages and will grow by
time.
You can archive the file to some other media or location if the size
of=3D3D3D3D3D3D20
the
file grows reasonably. After archiving the file delete existing smon_log
file and create new file by using touch command.
