Re: [foxboro] Get information's from System Monitor

Joseph,

You need to check with the process summary to see what processes are actually
running and what processes hang up. The smon_xxxx processes (could be 3-4
depending on your IA version) run the system monitor where all stations in the
domain must resport every 30 seconds. It is also the source of the error
messages for stations.

When you get the problem, run ps -eaf |grep smon
and see what processes report. Run the same command when all is OK so you can
see the normal result. I suspect your smon processes are OK.

The smdh processes run to display the information. You need to be careful if
you have remote sessions (Exceed), etc that the processes running on your
station are not currently displayed on a remote session.
You can run the ps -eaf |grep smdh to see what is running under normal and then
compare when you have trouble.

If both these sets of processes seem to be OK, then you are likely running out
of some resource in either the display station (smdh) or the smon host station
(may be the same station). This gets more complex but you need to start
looking at the various resources of your stations with sipc, som, show_params,
memory, swap space, etc.

How do you normally fix the problem? Can you stop smon and restart to fix or
do you have to reboot one or more stations to fix it? I have seen situations
where someone iconized SMDH and then dragged it off-crt so that it is almost
invisible on the crt.

Folks,

Same subject (System Monitor messages); different line of questioning ...

We have System Monitors that periodically stop running (viewed as gray in
the System Manager display), and one that periodically will not open the
Sys/Sys_Mgmt (System Manager) display (get error "cannot open/access. Get
error - SMDH: Currently active on this Station" but it is not). Not
getting any where with Foxboro Service so... Will the System Manager
trap/report these types of messages? Hate to waste the time with log files
if this is something that will not even be reported.

Thanks.

Subject: [foxboro] Get information's from System Monitor

Hi List.

Does anybody know how to get information's from the system monitor into a
file.
Is there a possibility to get a report-File for a Station or to get a single
Information?

For Example:
I would like to get automatically the PERIPHERAL COUNTERs each day from all
Modbus Stations To get an Statistic over the Error counters.

Regards
 Dirk
