The current G box being shipped is a Sun Blade 1500.
John is correct it is twice the machine the F box (Sun Blade 150) is however
it is really quite affordable and from my personal point of view I can
justify a G box quite easily (over a F box)
SB1500 comes stock from Foxboro with "dual video", "second NIC" and
"external SCSI" It also has two(2) serial ports. The 1st serial port is used
in v7.x for the RCNI/DNBT. The 2nd serial port for the GCIO connection for
Ann.KB's.
Why do I mention two(2) serial ports as a big deal?
Well considering a "WP51F" (SB150) only has one(1) serial port and three(3)
spare PCI slots.
If you want a WP51F with "dual head", "second NIC", "external SCSI" (for
connection to tape drive) & "GCIO/Annunciator keyboard" you will bring the
cost of the WP51F to about the same price as a WP51G and end up with half
the horse power.
For BuyAutomation.com:
51F (SB150) $5,968.51
p/n: P79013251300
- 500mhz CPU
- 512mb RAM
- 80gig hard drive (IDA)
- NIC/SCSI combo card (PCI Slot 1)
- 2nd video card (PCI Slot 2)
- Serial Controller card (PCI Slot 3) for GCIO/Ann.KB connection
- DVD drive (ATAPI)
51G (SB1500) $6,675.69
p/n: P81011110010
- 1Ghz CPU
- 512mb RAM
- 80gig hard drive (IDE)
- NIC/SCSI combo card (PCI Slot 1)
- Dual video included
- 2 serial ports included
- DVD drive (ATAPI)
So the difference is about $700 before any advantage upgrade discounts.
(The difference only gets smaller as soon as you add discounts)
Peter
