Re: [foxboro] Foxboro] Why do people use PCs to show DM/FV (Inspi red byDual headed Hummingbird displays)

Actually it does not imply that.
It imples better integration with the existing *NIX based infrastructure,
ay least to me.

Mark,

Re: Linux based HMIs, Remote displays using VNC.

So the issue is price more than anything? The use of Linux and VNC implies
that.

What's the right price point for an HMI?

Why? We want more displays, and buying Foxboro WPs is rather expensive.
And while the IT departments don't seem to mind, engineering doesn't =
have
the time to maintain MS Windows based machines.

How? Install Linux (Debian) on old PC that are 'too slow' for current
MS Windows OS, that the IT department gives away. We also display
DMs using VNC with a Linux box running a VNC server that 'displays'
the DMs.

5 dedicated

couple dozen desktop PCs or thin clients using VNC.
