Re: [foxboro] Foxboro DCS to other DCS communication

We have links between DeltaV and Foxboro I/A, but I wouldn't recommend the
methods we used. We're using Modbus serial communication and a whole host
of custom applications to make them work. They were set up to both monitor
and control across the link in either direction, depending on the
application. I think the only controls that are still in use are steam
pressure controls in units controlled by DeltaV that are operated from the
Utilities console on Fox I/A. If we were doing it over, I think we'd look
more closely at OPC. There was a perception at the time that Modbus was
more reliable than OPC, but the reliability of the custom applications to
make it work wasn't considered.
