Re: [foxboro] Foxboro DCS to other DCS communication

A recent project we did had a small number of controllers
with supervisory controls on Honeywell and regulatory on
Foxboro. In addition, several analog and contact values
are passed in each direction.

To complicate matters, another small number of values are
exchanged between the Honeywell and a ControlLogix processor,
and a large number are exchanged between ControlLogix and
Foxboro.

We put a Prosoft Modbus card into the ControlLogix and plug
the Foxboro into one port, via FBM224, and the Honeywell
into the other. Both systems talk as Modbus masters to
the Prosoft which is the Modbus slave.

The two ports are independent Modbus chains, so Foxboro and
Honeywell don't share the same wire.

Both the Modbus ports, and the ControlLogix processor address
the same the 5000 word, read/write register memory inside the
Prosoft. The table is diced up so that each of the three
systems writes select areas. Each of the three systems then
writes to it's area and reads whatever it needs.

Configuration is not tough as both Foxboro and Honeywell speak
Modbus as masters, and Prosoft is in the business of adding
comm. interfaces to ControllLogix. We had a small bump in
the comms both with Foxboro and Honeywell that had to do with
writing multiple registers. An undocumented setting had to
be adjusted. A pass thru the Prosoft knowlegebase found that
answer.

This system is on line and trouble free since September.

Subject: [foxboro] Foxboro DCS to other DCS communication

I was wondering if anyone is communicating between two different DCS
systems, such as Foxboro I/A Series and Delta V.

If so,

1) How are you communicating between the two systems?

2) Are you performing controls across the communication link or just
sending non-control data back and forth?
