Re: [foxboro] Foxboro - AB Interface Questions

Chuck,
Here we have 3 ControlLogix PLC's talking to AB30B's and we haven't faced
the problem you describe.
Our AB30B is connected to a KF2 box and the DH+ that goes out of this box
connects to a port of a DHRIO module in each PLC. At the PLC we assigned
PLC5-type addresses to the data to be exchanged.
The ABSCAN block can read more than one address with no problems..... in our
case we are reading 16 registers (PCINPS = 32 in the ABSCAN BLOCK). Of
course, all the registers must belong to the same "data file" - you can read
N16:0 to N16:30 with one ABSCAN block, but if you want to read N16:0 and
N17:0 you will need 2 ABSCAN blocks.... anyway, this is not a problem, as
you can define your PLC5-type data tables the way you like.
If you are about to change your hardware, maybe you should wait a little
while..... Foxboro will have to offer a better communication method for
ControlLogix at some time in the near future.... current options like DH+,
modbus with Prosoft modules or Interchange software for Unix or RSLinx
software for NT all seem far-fetched. I think they will have to come out
with an Ethernet FBM that talks directly to the ControlLogix in its native
protocol.
