Supplying systems with 'up to date' which in your context seems to mean
latest revision is band aid to the problem, but does not address the
real problem. Properly functioning software is what is needed, not the
latest bells and whistles. Is that available in the latest version of =
MKS,
Exceed, or Windows? I don't like having to upgrade things every 3 =
months
because one component came out with an 'update'. I also don't like =
having
to deal with different versions of everything. A system that works that
doesn't need updates is nice. Kind of like the PW's I have running =
Venix.
They all have the same software, it seems to work properly, and I don't
have to spend time doing software maintenance/upgrades. Will we ever
get this using Windows?

This is why some of us would be very willing to pay Foxboro for a
tested and supported system that is 'free'. The only software I
install on the Foxboro computers either come from (through) Foxboro
or were designed specifically for Foxboro, and I don't think I'm
alone. If you are installing non Foxboro supported applications
on Foxboro equipment, you are asking for trouble. Now if the sales
guy says that it will work and it won't.....

But in summary, there is no way for Foxboro to make the move to windows
"without screaming about it".
