Re: [foxboro] FoxSelect locking up

The D box (WP) has 512mhz of memory and exhibits the same symptoms of
FoxSelect locking up as an E box (AW) with 128mhz of memory.
No one has suggested increasing semsys:seminfo_semmns to 350. I'm not
familiar with that parameter, but I'll give it a try on a WP.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Wally,

this could well be a resource problem. Swap space, memory and semaphores
spring to mind.
Just lately I installed FoxView on an AW and all looked nice an dandy.
Thing started to turn to custard after the system was rebooted.
Third party software and locally written applications running on the AW
started to behave funny or didn't start at all and FoxSelect was locking
up
for no apparent reason.

An increase of semsys:seminfo_semmns to 350 seem to have solved the issue.

I did increase the memory and swap space but I'm not convinced that this
helped at all.

FoxView, FoxDraw, FoxSelect etc are very resource hungry.
It would be nice if Foxboro indicated what impacked those sort of packages
have on the system and how to tune the system for maximum(best)
performance.

Frits Schouten.

Subject: [foxboro] FoxSelect locking up

Has anyone experienced problems with FoxSelect 8.0 randomly locking up or
hanging up, thus requiring killing the FoxSelect PID in VT100. Using
vmstat, sometimes CPU idle time is 0, and sometimes it isn't affected at
all.

I'm running on Unix D and E boxes, V6.1.2. DM is our default HMI. We're
trying to migrate to FoxView 8.0 and have run into this problem with
FoxSelect. I did submit a CAR and am working with TAC on this issue.

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,
Wally Magda
