Re: [foxboro] FoxPage

Since January, we have been implementing this capability using the Signal
add-on software package for the Logmate software from TIPs Inc. We chose
this software because we could easily integrate it with systems other than
Foxboro. We are running the Logmate software on a dedicated Windows 2000
Server machine and it is communicating to terminal servers (RS232 to
ethernet converters) that are located in the units and connected to the a
serial alarm printer cable. The software captures the alarm messages that
go to an alarm printer, parses the info., stores it in a database, and it
sends out pages when alarms that meet certain criteria are received. The
same message that appears on the printer is what we send out to an
alphanumeric pager. Besides RS232, the system can also receive information
via text files, ethernet IP, and ?? The alarm logs can be viewed via a web
browser. The complete system, which includes the terminal servers, Logmate
server and software, the paging provider system and the pagers, seems quite
reliable.

We have set up the configuration to send out a page for every alarm that is
received from our AB PanelView station and only certain alarms from the
Foxboro system.

Some of the features that we have mentioned to them that we would like see
in future software releases are listed below. They seem open to providing
key enhancements.

1. An alarm dead-band feature for the paging software. If the same alarm
was received within a certain time frame from the last one, then don't send
out another page.

2. Their software can currently send out the same message received or send
a canned message. We would like to be able to configure the message to be
based on certain parsed fields and in a certain order.

3. While the web browser version of the alarm log viewing client is
displaying on a PC, we would like PC to make some kind of sound when one or
more new alarms have been logged. The sound would stop when the user hits
a "silence" button on the web browser page.

4. We would like the web browser version of the alarm log viewing client
to be able to display alarm messages (or parts of the alarm message) in
different colors based on whether they are an alarm or an acknowledgement,
and based on the port (source) the information was received from.

Hi list,

We are considering issuing our Operators with Pagers and sending alarm
messages
to them from our Foxboro DCS. Has anyone had any successful experience
using
FoxPage or any other system.

Thanks
