Re: [foxboro] FoxPage

We also have been using FoxPage for about 3 years successfully. There
were a few growing pains. We are sending critical alarms to operators so
they can walk about the plants doing their checks. The way we have it
setup, operators can also use the Foxboro DM SYS menu to pick on a Page
menu item and send out a manual text page.

I use FoxPage for system monitor messages, which let's me know what's
going on with the system. I don't use the OAJ scripts at this time.

I have the same caveat as Roger. Also, watch out for overloading your
queue and creating a condition where it takes 5 minutes to get an alarm
out. Another thing to watch out for is when you upgrade to a new version
of I/A. The new install creates generic default scripts, so save your
original scripts and pager lists. If the upgrade plan is followed, then
this shouldn't be an issue.

Take care,

We have been using FoxPage for about 5 years and find it quite useful. We
are not really sending alarms to operators at this time though. Several
of
our systems monitor unmanned, remote storm water treatment facilities via
integrators/gateways. We use FoxPage to dispatch water sampling crews
and
others when the remote facilities call for them. Additionally, the
Foxboro
piece of FoxPage (alm2unix which is now call Event Activated Scripts) is a
great general purpose tool for having Control Processors kick off
programs/scripts on an AP/AW. We also use the facility to capture
specific
data during storm events and for other purposes.

One caveat is that paging can be unreliable. There is no real way of
knowing if the pager receives the page or not. You may want to institute
a
system of resending the page until the "alarm" is acknowledged. This is
not
too difficult to do on the IA system and we did it at one time but no
longer. Additionally, the latest version of the Pagemate software (the
third party paging software Foxboro packages with FoxPage) has some
capabilities in this area also.

Hi list,

We are considering issuing our Operators with Pagers and sending alarm
messages
to them from our Foxboro DCS. Has anyone had any successful experience
using
FoxPage or any other system.

Thanks
