I have used the NEC 1860NX monitor on about 40 WP51A/B/D's and AW51E's for 
several years now. The symptoms you mention below both indicate the loss of 
the green color gun signal. This problem is as likely to occur in any other 
CRT or LCD monitor.

Probable causes in order of likelihood:
1) Bad video cable, especially the end connectors or adapter causes this 
problem in most cases.
2) Bad monitor.
3) Bad video card in AW51B.
