perhaps it doesn't in theory, but it is a downgrade from what we have
available in a solely unix environment. nothing extra had to be loaded
on any of the unix boxes to run anything remotely as Xwindows is built
in and available on any station.

the more software that has to be loaded, the more chance for problems
and support can be a hassle.
